The "spirit of LJ" seems to have been bitching about how dare they sell themselves out to a Russian company and ohhhh noooooes it's the end of blogging as we know it, oh no, wait, not it isn't, um. I like Twitter for the same reasons as you say, and let's face it, it's kind of a micro-blog anyway.
