So, I have the first three (very short) chapters of "The Strangest Notion" finally uploaded!

It is set in my Sapere universe, so (obviously) has the usual aliens and robots and bad weird science, but a completely new cast.

Whoever expected that it'd be down to someone's personal organiser to save the world?

Chapter One: On Dreamwidth | On Livejournal
Chapter Two: On Dreamwidth | On Livejournal
Chapter Three: On Dreamwidth | On Livejournal

At last, another chapter. I've been working on this one on-and-off for months - I mean, lookit: November 26th was my last upload. SIGH. I need to get back into writing in my Blue AU, at least people read it. :P

( Fake cut to chapter 19 on Dreamwidth or LiveJournal ) In which Mirii finally meets Sei again, and… well, is even more confused about what to think about this whole mess. Velia and Pau sneak about in the Lanali city, getting so close to the terrorists that their boss would really not be happy if he knew about it! and Brennan finds out exactly what his captors have in store for him.

My html'ing has gone very strange. O_o I seem to have some MASSIVE gaps between some of the paragraphs.
Edit: OK, the html'ing is fixed. :D

( Fake cut to chapter 18 on Dreamwidth or LiveJournal ) In which Mirii meets Yannis’ contact in the foreign lab (and gets even more confused), Brennan moves out to the hospital, Biohazard makes a surprising discovery of his own, and Asenka crosses swords with the sinister doctor Hueil.

My writing mood still hasn’t picked up. Doesn't help that I can never write very well after work, especially when I’m also on-call – normally, I’d have the end of November as annual leave, but we have the pre-regs in the department this year, so I can’t. My count might be ok but it’s turned into horribly disjointed notes of where the story is going, to flesh out later. Highly dissatisfying.

keaalu: I say I am writing, but actually I have a game of solitaire open (nano procrastinate)
( Fake cut to chapter 17 on Dreamwidth or LiveJournal ) In which the twins discuss their limited progress, Eri gets a message, and Asenka starts to have second thoughts about what they’re doing.

…I don’t think my “spy thriller” is as back on track as I’d hoped. ¬_¬

I’ve not been in the greatest mood to write, the last few days. I’ve had some furniture delivered, and I was more excited about that than my writing, haha. (I, um, have also been playing a little of the game in my icon, too. But I am writing, honest!)

( Fake cut to chapter 16 on Dreamwidth or LiveJournal ) In which Mirii visits the market with Yannis (who as always has an ulterior motive) and Sei begins to find out what his abductor is up to.

I was managing to keep ahead of my count once I got into the story, but I slowed up a little over the weekend – I keep having issues with my plot (as in, lack of it), and I don’t want to take the cheat’s way out of adding something completely random. I do mostly want this to maybe be, you know, worth reading, when I’m finished? I have bullied the plot a little bit and noted down some things I want to happen, and in what order, so I hope I’ll be able to pick up the pace a little.

Unrelated: I really wish those bots would leave me alone. I don't WANT to have to ban people from commenting unless they're on my friends list (as I'd get no comments then, haha. ¬_¬). There's nothing more disappointing than seeing you actually have a comment on something! then realising it's just some Russian spambot trying to send you to a phishing site.
keaalu: If plot notes worked towards my nanowrimo word count, I'd be finished already (Nano Plot Notes)
At last, a WHOLE WEEK IN (already? Ugh), I have some new material to post!

( Fake cut to chapter 15 on Dreamwidth or LiveJournal ) In which a little deception* is revealed, more trickery is planned, and Mirii considers her options.

My counts look a little botched from here - I mean, how can I only just be over 50k, when I just posted 6000 words?. Well, I'm starting writing from where I got up to in 2008 - I just managed to scrape past the count, but a lot of it (about 6000 words of it) was notes that I'm not really finding a place to use any more. Therefore, 100,000 is my "50,000" this year. I already know I'm not going to make it, haha.

I just caught these lyrics from "A New England" and it made me giggle far more than it should have. I think that means it must be teatime:
I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them, but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware

* - totally didn't just write "a little Decepticon". Slipstream is highly insulted - calm down, bit. You're not even in this universe yet.

Edit: I was just checking where some of my traffic comes from on a couple of my blogs, and... however did someone get to my "Aude Sapere" blog from putting "buy viagra" into a search engine? :P And it's a little disappointing to see people are coming from "website stats and valuation" sites. ¬_¬

Edit: OK, so I didn't get it finished "this weekend". BUT!

At last, I can make the post I have been itching to make since, ooh, about 1st November last year.

Drum roll please:
Ten months and nineteen days after I started it, the first draft of Memento Mori is finished!

( Fake cut to chapter 32 (Livejournal Mirror) ) In which Tevak finally gets his hands back on his prize, but Blink gets a little assistance from on high.

and lastly…
( Fake cut to the epilogue (Livejournal Mirror) ) In which loose ends are tied up, and Blink gets one more opportunity to do good.

WOO HOO

I now just have to edit it, and tidy it up, and get rid of the disappearing characters, and...

Edit: Typical - so excited to be posting it, I flubbed my html. (I forgot the password for the MM LJ at lunch, too - posting these last chapters is just dogged with failure.)

I am SO CLOSE to finishing this story. In fact, I want to finish it THIS WEEKEND. I have JUST ONE - one! - last "real" chapter left to go. Then I can get to re-plotting some of my other "dangling modifiers"; I need to work on the plot of "Good as Gold" (which I feel the need to try and finish for this year's Nano), as well as "Future Tense".

Anyway, onwards with MM:

( Fake cut to the little prologue I managed to get finished. (Livejournal Mirror) ) It's still fairly "rough-and-ready", as it were - just to get the point across until I get down to editing and polishing. (In the finished item, I hope the prologue will be a little longer, and a little more exciting, but for now, it's good enough.) It's mostly there to draw people into the action and make them curious.

And for the proper update:
( Fake cut to chapter 31 (Livejournal Mirror) ) In which Blink returns to Kust to see what's happened in her absence, and gets a little shocking news on the side. Oh, and bumps into someone she really didn't want to meet. It's all gearing up for the final showdown.

I've been thinking a little about other worldbuilding-y things, like why are groups of three so important among fliers? (Easy: three is the minimum group size needed to ensure an injured member of the party can be carried to safety - Screamer proved in Egypt that only having one wingmate isn't really enough to pull you out of a nosedive if you lose the power of flight. Same with bikes going around in fours - small models really need to be able to pair off for safety, if one is injured, one can stay with him/her while the other two go for help. Magic :) )

Slightly later than the post on my LJ; I didn't feel like crossposting this to places at 2:30am, haha. XD

( Fake cut to chapter 30 (Livejournal Mirror) ) In which Blink manages the incredible, and actually gets into the Institute. OMG. And finds a little surprise inside.

Just fyi, "Hoo-dees" is the colloquial name for hooting deer. I've only just started to think about their names and things; I need to do a bit of worldbuilding before I edit the thing up. I don't really want to have to use the word "deer", for instance, it was a stop-gap so I didn't get too stuck. XD

Last year, I noticed that the username "Aude Sapere" had been deleted and purged. (OK, it was on 29th June, so over a year ago. ¬_¬ It was in preparation for when I finished editing and self-pubbed "Thunder Daughter", which my busy life has thus far not allowed me to finish, bah.)

I stupidly picked it up as an individual journal, which meant I had to log out of my normal username, log into that, etc... So I sort of left it fallow for a while.

Today, I finally worked out how to turn it into a community. XD

So! I thus present [livejournal.com profile] aude_sapere. I'll try and get a "sticky" post up later for people.

SEE, SEE? I told you I'd get it done in less than a month! *PROUD*

Blink is getting quite excited about the event coming up just around the corner. I'm getting quite excited too as I'm getting close to the finish, WOO.

( Fake cut to chapter 29 (Livejournal Mirror) ) In which Blink makes a shocking discovery about her little hosts, and Rae wonders if they should take drastic steps to resolve "the Tevak problem".

So much for “determined to get the next chapter finished faster than the last” – I seem to have been even slower, this time. (It’s been about 40 days since I last posted! What.)

Again, “I am determined etc”, so I’m going to set myself a deadline, this time; next chapter by the 27th. That gives me a week to finally tame the creeping junkheap once and for all, and then a week to do the writing. If I can keep to the “50,000 in 30 days”, I’m sure I can write 6000 in a week.

Back to business. I actually posted the meat of the chapter before work, but ran out of time to link to it from my other journals, so here we go. Better late than never!

( Fake cut to chapter 28 (Livejournal Mirror) ) In which Tevak gives the Library an ultimatum – find Blink, or he’ll burn the place down – and certain little shocking revelations are made. Up in the danata colony, Blink struggles to work out where she’s meant to go from here – and scared that she’ll end up bringing the monster to their door.

Like the last chapter, this one should have been finished a long time ago, but the creeping junkheap has kept me busy. ¬_¬

Another chapter in less than 6 weeks! It's a miracle.

I had wanted to get this chapter finished and uploaded on the 1st, because it would have been the story’s “6-month birthday”. Happy Belated Birthday, MM?

Actually I’m not particularly happy because it means I still haven’t finished it, and I can’t edit what I haven’t finished. And I am determined to have something finished enough to self-publish by the end of 2012. Cue, end of the world?

( Fake cut to chapter 26 (Livejournal Mirror) ) In which Sarmis manages to blow his own cover, and Tevak discovers his prize is missing (and promptly also blows up).

It’s been twenty two days since my last update. *le sigh* I need to be less nitpicky, less distracted, and more write-y, because I can’t edit / publish this if it’s not finished. Ragh.

My current count includes only my posted words. I have another 1600 words or so lurking on the master file (that’s getting on for 1% of story!); 170 in a prologue I’m going to put in and the remainder in the next chapters that come after what I’ve posted. I’m trying to be good and not write all the “fun” chapters first; joining everything up afterwards ends up with me throwing a lot of words away, that way.

( Fake cut to chapter 25 (Livejournal Mirror) ) In which Blink finally makes good her escape – but where are the danata taking her? Has she maybe just climbed out of the frying pan, and got straight into the fire?
