Good Friday
Friday, 10 April 2009 10:11 pmInvited my parents over for fish and chips, today, as it's Good Friday and it's traditional to have fish, and the "Fish'n'Chick'n" down the road from me was having an offer of 25% off... and LAWDY. I have NEVER seen it so busy in there! Admittedly, when I go it's 99% of the time only ever after I've come home from on-call (because I never cook when I'm on-call, the hospital has the uncanny knack of waiting until I've juuuust put my food in the oven before ringing) and there's usually only a couple of people ahead of me.
It was all the way around the whole of the shop and right out the door, today. Mum and I queued for about 25 or 35 minutes before we got to the counter, and the queue was even longer than when we joined it when we got out the door. Like I said to the staff, I bet they were thinking "whose idea was this?!" (One of the girls agreed that she wasn't going to do it next year!) It was about 6:20 we went in there, and apparently it had been like it since lunchtime. It was a really good bit of fish, though, so even though they looked frazzled and run off their feet it wasn't impacting on customer service.
Still, it was good food. :) We went and sat down by the river Orwell, watched the wee boats going past, then went on down to Shotley Gate and walked along the marina. It brought back memories, watching the ferry terminals across in Harwich and Felixstowe. And I feel kinda inclined to add that to my NaNo2009 ideas collection. :)
