Snagged a journal in preparation! [livejournal.com profile] 0good_as_gold0

"Good as Gold" is intended to follow on from "Thunder Daughter" ([livejournal.com profile] thunderdaughter, 2007s NaNo, in the event you forgot... ;) )

Now I need to get me some BIIIIG old bits of board to put my prompt cards up on, and to try and at least sort out an IDEA of the plot... (I'm actually late starting, I got planning underway in August last year.) And that's assuming I can gently nudge SBM2/Broken (or "Warped" as I seem to have re-titled it) out of the way for the duration of November...

The plot is leaving me a little uninspired, I have to say. I sense it's no way going to be even as "good" as last year's. :( I need more random crap in it. (I'd put OMFG GIANT ROBOTS FROM OUTER SPACE in it, but that's kinda non-canon in my little universe. Oh well.)

Unrelated: I seem to have found a semi-legitimate use for polystyrene packing peanuts in my latest story. ¬_¬ I scare me. Need to sort things out so I can get a chapter written this weekend, maybe...

I was wondering when NaNoWriMo would be this year, thanks for mentioning it! I'm gonna have to go for it... *grin* I'm not sure that it will be any good, though... any tips?

Tip one: write.
Tip two: write more.
Tip three: ...write some more.

Seriously. ;) It helps to kind of have a plan of where you want things to go - you CAN do it "kamikaze-style" and just wing it for the whole month, but I find it's easier if you have a vague direction you want to take it in. Of course, there's still every opportunity your characters will trample the plan into the dust and go where the heck they want, but in the early days it helps.

...and leave your inner editor in a cupboard, or something. :P Accept that a lot of what you write will be pure unadulterated bullshit, and write it anyway. If you blether about nothing for a page, it's boosted your wordcount! And it's ONLY just over 1500 words a day. Seriously, that's like nothing. Up to this point in this comment *waves* is about 150 words and it took me about 3 minutes to type. You only have to set aside half an hour to an hour a day and you've got it. ;)

I also found posting it helped, hence why I've got another "writing journal" this year. Drawing for it helped as well! But that's just me. I sought out LOADS of stuff for research, as well, really squidged my brain full of stuff like Aztecs and hot springs and stuff to help me keep my focus, even if I didn't actually use much of it.

This year, I'm sensing I'm not going to do so well, because I have a Skywarp going "noo, me, meee, stay with meeee" and I'm not going to find it so easy to put him and his story down. (Damn those cute robots.) But that's another matter entirely. ;)

I'm still working out what I'd like to write about. I was thinking about an alternate Lurdanjo history, since my world has always been planned out to have multiple scenarios, all taking place in other worlds. I'm also thinking of something entirely different, yet still somewhat similar to the kinds of things that I've already thought about... then again, there's option #3, going for something COMPLETELY different, but I don't know if I'd have enough ideas with something like that to keep going...

With #3, that's why you "just write". As you're gunning for your daily wordcount, you can often find unexpected things just write themselves in, and that's what makes it fun. :)

Aaafter a fashion, I guess XD - at least, I printed up the clunky bad-dialogue'd original version (http://pics.livejournal.com/keaalu/pic/0002hfwa) so it'd feel like I "won" NaNo that year, and I think it's still in my Lulu shop, but I haven't officially printed it. I'm still working on that bit. Editing is taking forever. XD

Oooh, that's very pretty... :)

I'm vaguely considering attempting it myself this year... if I'm unemployed in November, since my contract (and the work I'm contracted for) runs out in October...

I'll wait and read the edited version.
