Another new chapter! Unfortunately, there is trauma on the way for our heroines...

On LiveJournal: Chapter 18
On Dreamwidth: Chapter 18

The Dreamwidth entries have nicer formatting, but as usual it's doing something really strange with the italics - I'm not sure where the giant spaces are coming from. The actual code is identical to the code for the LJ entry. O_o

I crossposted the previous entry to Facebook, and decided I really don't like the way it's formatted, so I'm going to have to just do it manually from now on.

Yes, I have actually got off my aft and posted two (yes, TWO) whole chapters of Memento Vivere.

On LiveJournal: Chapter 16 | Chapter 17
On Dreamwidth: Chapter 16 | Chapter 17

The Dreamwidth entries have much nicer formatting. I'm not sure why the font on the Livejournal community is so tiny? I'll need to go and find myself a better journal layout at some point.

The current state of play:
Some of Chapter 16 was written back in March, when I foolishly said "I'm getting close to having another chapter of MV finished" and proceeded to write almost NOTHING for six whole months.

Chapter 17 is all new.

Chapters 18 onwards aren't finished; 18 is close (so so very close), but everything after that is a big disjointed muddle of half-written scenes that I am nowhere near being done with.

Onwards!

Digest Two

It's sunday again! My second "Weekly Digest Post", which seems to be proving how unproductive I'm being outside of work. ¬_¬

It's been a pretty hectic week at work - the first pair of pre-regs did their last sessions with us (so I need to write their testimonials etc), and on Monday the second pair start. (As ever,) It's quite hard to keep up with the workload (checking their enquiries, and doing my own). It probably didn't help that I had other things I had to do, like the 3-hour "Lorenzo" (electronic patient records/results/notes/etc) training, on their last day.

Art wise, I've experimented a little with the Apophysis fractal flame generating program - I'd love to be able to work out how to create those incredible, organic forms I see posted on different sites, but right now I'm a complete dunce at it, just tweaking the triangles without really knowing what I'm doing. If I create anything particularly spectacular (haha) I'll post something, but right now it's mostly "blobs".

And I've written a little bit! I've got a chapter of MV finished.

( Fake cut to chapter 14 on Dreamwidth or LiveJournal ) In which a certain curly-haired fessine makes an exciting discovery, and our heroines discuss "the Lunete problem".

At the moment I'm still mostly setting things up, but the Notdragons will make their appearance soon.

Edit: Look, seriously, this is silly. I wrote the post on time, and then failed spectacularly to post it. *headdesk* Clearly, mentioning how "Digest One sounds like the title of a post-apocalyptic novel" was tempting fate.

Help

NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow. I fell asleep instead of do ANYTHING last night. While part of me is well-rested and fairly alert for its-not-even-8:30-am-yet, the other part of me is flailing around going "aaaugh I still haven't QUITE got my plot down and there's still a planet without a name, not to mention the notdragons don't have a proper word for their species and I have NO IDEA how I'm going to name them since their language is unpronounceable and I can hardly call them Huffsqueak or Clickfart (although now I kind of want to)."

SO, ideas:
(I'm not going to post my plot, for obvious reasons.)

Cast:
Blink (obviously; fessine)
Skydash (femme. No relation to the rainbow variety, also notapony)
Rae and Aspazija (on Hesger only; they do talk a little by radio, maybe)
Viveka (kiravai, pen; "Beautiful voice") and the esu'imi
Captain Jadiga si'Danukat (medusi) and family (Truda (f), Saloma(f) and Miers (spur)) - captain of police frigate
Kainda si'Needsasurname ("Kay-IN-dah") and family (Lunete (f), Egils (s), Grieta (f) and 3rd (f))
Capt. Ivir (kiravai, cob; captain of warship patrolling the Imperial border)
Captured Gok (not sure if this will EVER have a name)
Various notdragons - a green one that is (reasonably) kind, dark red one is leader of colony.

Planets:
Neolithic notdragon colony; within Imperial territory so it needs a kiravai name, ia'Something
Planet with a Gok colony; I want to call it something silly and "romantic" like Mist or Fog or something. (I quite like "Fog", actually. Hmm. *ponders*)

...I'll probably add to this as I think of things.

Notdragons

Way back when I started thinking about the plot for this, I’d decided that the antagonists would be ‘reptilian’, and I didn’t want yet-another-biped, but the more I scribbled the more they started to look like dragons.* So I sat down and started designing things last night, to see if I could take my large hexapod reptile with bad breath a little further away from dragons, and for now, may I present:

I HAD set my Dreamwidth up to automatically crosspost to LJ, but it didn't seem to want to this time. I'm not sure if it's a change that's been made since the latest LJ release, or DW just couldn't connect? Will have to investigate.

Kind of want my scrolling "subject entry" box back on LJ, too. *sad* This tiny floating menu that I never use is really annoying, and everything takes sooo loong to load.

Memento Vivere

OK, so, I have been a little naughty. I know it's still only January and I have a whole pile of other creative projects staring at me, but sometimes you just have to obey the muse, correct? I'd like to at least get something akin to a plot down on paper before my muse sits down and goes back on strike because work.

Thus, I give you, Memento Vivere (LJ). Yes, the title is intentionally similar to Memento Mori because well, I want it to be a sequel. (I was editing my notes for MM when the muse bit, soo...)

I just don't want it to turn into a re-run of "Adverse Camber" (which is undergoing surgery on the plot). Right now, I'm wondering if I can amalgamate a little of the old plot for "Sundiver" into it - I really want to be able to use that idea, haha. (See here for some notes.) Plus, the main character in those notes has a name that sounds a little like the title - Viveka, which means "Beautiful Voice" (humorously, she's a mute (and possibly deaf?) kiravai) but I'm sure I could make it a play on Vivere somehow as well ("to live"). Perhaps she knows about the creatures/Frond's people, I don't know? She needs some way for me to relate her to Blink's plot. I'm not normally a big one for gods and magic (too much handwavium, I always end up having to science it up; I have the same problem with werewolves) but the "esu'imi" (which unfortunately seems to look a lot like a creature out of Dungeons and Dragons, even though I've never played it in my life) has always sooort of been related to the monsters of kiravai myth. (Holy run-on sentence, Batman.) Perhaps that would help me get around that?

I'm also thinking along the lines of Frond's people not wanting to help Blink, because they blame her for Frond's death. (I think she was quite young, didn't really understand what she was doing, and should have gone "home" instead of hanging around in Surkea.) So Blink has to win back their friendship - maybe by helping one of them, I don't know. How do you help something powerful enough to reshape the world at an atomic level?

Lastly, my icon is based off this colour scheme from FusionBeads. It seems to have become the MV colourscheme as well.

...all right, so, that was just supposed to be me linking to my new community where I'll be uploading chapters so I don't forget about it. As ever, I talk too much. Stream of consciousness plotting, mayhap.

I really wish those people who sit on usernames and never use them, never even update them ONCE and post NO comments... wouldn't. XD
