Mini rant. Boring, but I had to get it off my chest.

Why is “Planet’s Funniest Animals” so incredibly UNfunny? I had the TV on without the sound on while I waited for something else to start on ITV (it takes about 10 minutes to tune in, and I can't stant the commentary on these "clips" shows, so I put the sound off while I wait) and all I saw was: dog has head stuck in hamster ball, dog has head stuck in cornflakes packet and keeps walking into things, skunk has head stuck in yoghurt pot (no attempts made to REMOVE said articles from animals’ heads). Hamsters running in hamster wheel. Cat playing with cat toy. Dog playing with dog toy. Flamingo filter feeding (and yes, that was all it was – just a flamingo, sweeping its beak back and forth in the water, filter feeding, as millions of flamingos do every day. Somehow this constituted “funny”.) Oxpecker removing ticks from giraffe. Skunk stuck in shoe. Dogs fighting over dog toy. Little iguana sitting on back of larger iguana. Bear catching salmon jumping up waterfall. 75% of these OMG LIEK SO FUNNY CLIPS being animals doing what animals do naturally. The only thing that raised a smile from me was the cat using a human lavatory, evel going so far as to flush it. :P Without the voiceover, it’s unfunny, and WITH the voiceover the presenter gives me an attack of SHUT THE HELL UP BEFORE I COME OVER THERE AND TWAT YOU ONE.
Someone tell me, because I think I’m missing the point, HOW ARE THESE SO FUNNY THEY NEED A WHOLE TV SHOW?

The "working on site" has been superseded by "tidying room" so the former will have to wait. I'm still redoing profiles - Ivy's will be next - so... yeah. Boring.

And oh Jesus help us all, there's going to be YET ANOTHER series of the X-Factor. *cries*

THANK YOU! I have always felt the exact same way about that stupid show, but no one else had written any rants about it! Not just the voiceover, but the ridiculous sound effects, too, and the fake laughter everywhere! Damn!

I second Danji's "THANK YOU"! Couldn't have said it better myself. That show SUCKS!

God yes. I used to watch it occasionally, but I always hated how they'd rarely use the original sound, instead going for crappy commentary and stupid cartoon sound effects. An LJ friend recently posted a few REALLY funny videos of crazy cats, though. Better than anything on that show. Here's the link to her LJ, where..she provides links. :P http://sugarpeep.livejournal.com/28412.html

*nods* At least shows like "You've been framed" (another one where viewers send in their "funny" camcorder clips - normally people but a few of animals, and they're usually actually FUNNY) usually use the original sounds, and Harry Hill (who does the voiceover) is actually quite amusing at times.

I'll have to check out the cats. :)

Ohh, yeah, I forgot about the "OMG LIEK SO FUNNEH" sound effects (good job I had the telly's sound off, or I think it'd have had a "fatal crash" out the window. Not that it works very well to start with. :P)

Just one of the many, many reasons I've stopped watching television. For the most part, anyway.

Yeah, I noticed I watch it far less than I used to - mostly I put this down to not being at Uni any more, but then it occurred to me that telly is just 99% crap now. :P

I feel the same way about all of these "most funny whatever" horror shows and their incredibly inane commentary and voice-overs. I always mute the sound unless I hope for an explanation on something showing. I only watch it if I happen to have the tv on and I'm channel hopping. Even with the sound off it has about the same fascination as watching a train wreck. It's mostly reams and reams of near fatal accidents, one after the other. At least there are deer, horses or other hoofed creatures every so often. Even so, it's just Joker-TV and a blight to broadcast media, secound only to sickly sincere paid advertizing. Only three more years until broadcast tv bites it.
