Can Magpie pretty much manifest herself anywhere with the ship, or only predesignated/prepared areas? If it's the former, that makes things complicated, since then you need the Dauntless able to not only hear from anywhere inside the ship, but also able to project both a hologram and a forcefield to anywhere inside the ship... For that matter, would it be able to project more regular forcefields within itself as well (the more solid kind)?
That aside, there's still some issues of fluency - for example, how well can a hologram make eye contact, when said eyes are purely ornamental?
She can hear and manifest from (pretty much) anywhere in the ship, since she IS the ship, and was always designed to be able to respond to verbal enquiries from wherever her crew were located at any given instance (even before she attained semi-sentience).
On the latter point, not very well. ;) She's pretty good at "guesstimating" since she obviously knows her own dimensions and where things are in relation to those, but she's not got it 100% down yet - in the same way as she's not very good at "walking" convincingly yet so tends not to bother with actually projecting "feet" (she just wears a floor-length dress/skirt most of the time...) :)
