What the wavely cut out parts are: Quick answer! - they're torn vellum (read: overpriced tracing paper) like I covered the backing board with. (That's why the background has a slightly "hazy" look to it.) Slightly longer answer! - they're (eventually, once I've taken the coloured pencils to it) supposed to look a little reminiscient of "the dust settling". Theywere a spur-of-the-moment thing and I'm still not sure it worked, but eh, it goes with the whole slightly destructive theme.
On an aside, I have the colours balanced out a lot better now, so hurrah. Once I've got the final bits and pieces finished off and in place, I'll upload the FINAL-final version.
So I have been pronouncing his name right - always good to know. The texture of the tailfeathers, and hair looks good. And I'm impressed with how his jacket turned out...
