Scrooge

I’m feeling like a bit of a Scrooge tonight. I’ve been emailed by someone that liked one of my designs, and asked could he have it printed on a tee-shirt; since it was one that I’d designed FOR that sort of thing, and even have uploaded, I said as much and directed him to the link. He emailed back and sort of repeated his question, “so, would you mind if I get a t-shirt printed, with full copyrights to you, and your website on the shirt in bold writing” and offering to let me see what he meant before hand.
Now, I don’t mind him getting a shirt with it on – it’s what I designed it for :P and the fact people like my designs is reassuring! – it’s the way he’s effectively saying “I like your design, but I don’t want to pay for it” that rankles a bit with me (and the fact that he looks like he’s ignored my directing him to the shop and such). Is it unfair that I should be thinking like this? I mean, no publicity is bad publicity, right? And he’s at least being civil and not trying to claim it as his, but still… But then, if I say “yes” to him, then why should I say “no” to other people that ask? I mean, if I earn enough through CafePress I’d like to donate some to different charities I support (like the East Anglian Air Ambulance Trust, who need a new helicopter as theirs is over 20 years old, or the National Fox Welfare Society who do a lot of work eradicating mange in the fox population) but if I don’t earn anything, I can’t, right?
Argh.

Definately sounds like he's trying to avoid paying for it. You did direct him to the cafepress site after all and yet he is coming to you directly still.

I'd say politely tell him that you only allow peeps to use your images through that site.
