Still no word from the bloke who asked me about the tee-shirts, so I’m guessing he lived up to my prediction and either said “huh, miserable old cow, don’t want her art anyway” or “huh, miserable old cow, I’m going to do it anyway”. *shrugs* I didn’t think he’d get back to me or actually heaven forbid buy one by the way he’d emailed me back and asked the exact same thing I’d said “well I’d rather you don’t…” to. I can’t very well stop him short of taking all my art offline, and that’s the last thing I’d want to do, but it does leave you with a sour taste in the mouth sometimes.
Well, predictably enough, Labour won the general election. Can’t say I’m overly pleased, but then I don’t much care for any of them. Although I don’t think I’d have enjoyed having Michael Howard as the new PM – mostly because I don’t like the man, he irritates me beyond belief. And because all their policies and philosophies seemed to be “well, Labour did this… so we’ll do the opposite! Aren’t we imaginative!”
What I found scary about this general election was the way hunt supporters were behaving – sort of a “we don’t care who s/he is and what his/her policies are, if they’re pro-hunting, then try and get them elected to Parliament!” They’re so desperate to be allowed to resume killing wild animals (in a way that has been proven cruel) that they’d elect ANYone. And I can’t help but think that they sorely miss the point of the whole campaign – they’ve only been stopped from killing wild animals. They can still chase artificial scents over the countryside and have a hell of a day out in the country (since most supporters said that the “killing of vermin” (not my phrasing) was the least important part of the whole thing), they can still keep their horses and hounds, hunt staff will remain employed, etc etc. Why should it matter that they’re not allowed to kill hares and deer and foxes any more? ARGH. It’s things like that make me despair of the human race – I still believe in the basic goodness and honesty of Joe Public, but things like this make me wonder about my standpoint. They would have elected anyone to Parliament if it meant they were allowed to hunt live quarry again, and to hell with whether the country went to pot over taxation and the NHS and whatnot.
I have a new USB flashdrive (or just a “stick” as I call it) that I wanted to use to take a HEOUGE PowerPoint presentation to work on. Now, stop me if I’m wrong, but sticks are supposed to be plug’n’play, right? (Well, this one is). So why did it take me half an hour to work out how to access the h: side of the drive? (It’s split into 2 portions, one side is write-protected and the size of a floppy, the other isn’t and is the size of a very small hard drive.) ARGH. And how very convenient that the Shouty Track comes on about now when I want to shout (well, that and bite this drive into TEENY TINY PIECES.)
ROBOT. Yay.
Lovely robot. I love the way the builders just up tools and bugger off, no matter what the place looks like… All right, they have to get home, and they live in Germany, but it still amuses me. ;)
Yes, the department really DOES slope gently off to one side! :P What a mess. Those flat things hanging off the ceiling are conveyor belts. I still sense impending doom.
They’re brave - lots and lots of glass shelves just propped against the wall in a busy hospital dispensary. Hmm.
Innards. Not quite so impressive as a robot when you get to look in at the workings. You’d expect a whole fleet of little humanoids running about inside and throwing boxes onto conveyor belts. Those stripes are glass shelves – supposedly it’s to save space. I think it’s just going to confuse the poor thing when it tries to jam a bottle of Corsodyl onto one of those tiny shelves.
Reject. All the boxes it doesn’t like it spits out at the bottom. This is going to be entertaining. (Although not so amusing as one of my friends asking “can the robot cut the blisters up or do we still have to do that?” *facepalms*)
Aaaand we find out her secret. Rach is in fact a closet supplier of German mineral water – or maybe, maaaybe she IS the water… *Yoda voice* Suspicious, I am, hmm? *strokes chin* (I know, I know, she’s Sl’askia, not Saskia – still amused me though. :P)
(On a related note, I keep getting voicemails left on my mobile asking for Sasha who works for the music department somewhere, which struck me as another of those odd coincidences… I don’t know how they accidentally got my mobile number, because I’m the only one that’s had it – it’s not a “secondhand” number – but I FINALLY got through to them and said “this isn’t Sasha” this lunchtime.)
Now for the arts.
Some more of my dye-work – not processed it much after this yet, but these are the bases and what I’m planning for them. If anyone has any opinions – or better ideas for pics – then I’d be happy to consider… ;)
Seafoam - this one is the partner to “Firedancer” – I’d have got further with it before now if not for the fact my board all separated and cockled. I still have yet to remount it – planning on sorting that out this weekend. Along with everything else. Argh.
Chakras - a lot more red on this one than on the real piece – I just missed the centre with my photo. This is the one for Sei to go on. Yay. :)
Flower garden - lookit, tie-dye foxgloves. :) This one amused me no end. Going to be some magpies on this one… I’m thinking Red-billed blue and Formosan blue.
Foliage - backdrop for “Little Dragonfly Girl”, featuring one of my characters. Guess which. It’s not hard. ;)
Tree-blossom - another backdrop for a magpie pic. This one I think I’m going to put some greens on – long-tailed green and Indochinese Green, probably.
Dry foliage - this was my first attempt at a “grassland” background – didn’t work out like I wanted, it’s far too busy, but I think I can still do something with it. I’m thinking trees, and some sort of Indian bird. The Rufous treepie appeals. Goes along with my other magpies. :)
Grassland - this is a lot closer to how I originally wanted. It’s the backdrop for a piece with my little Bengal vixen, who still needs a name. Funny, she’s one of the few characters I have that doesn’t have a story – just someone to draw.
I have one other piece I’m currently in the planning stage for – “Love me by Sunset”. The background will be watercolour, and the foreground/characters acrylic. Going to be a bit of an experiment since the sun will be behind the characters, so I’ll need to try and desaturate the colours.
Now I’m off to watch telly. I forgot just how much I love Lenny Henry – I think it’s because he ends up laughing through his own jokes half the time. :D *love* And THEN it’s “Have I Got News for You” – hurrah! To think I used to be under the disillusion it was a SERIOUS programme.
