Silly question, just in case someone may know... WHAT, exactly, is a "ringtail"? Way back in 2000 or so, I assumed they were lemurs (even if they didn't look that much like them), but after having seen "grey fox ringtails" or "Fennec ringtails" (which don't seem to look like ANY of the three, save having pointed noses and stripey tails) I'm completely bemused, now. *headscratch*

Date: 6 Dec 2005 03:53 am (UTC)It's either A): A raccoon (unofficial term) -
B): This thing:
Which is either referred to as a ringtail, or a ringtail cat. I forget the scientific name, if I ever knew it.
C): (Slang, of a sort) Anything that has or resembles a long, banded tail.
There is a type of ringtail lemur, but I'm not sure how often it's just called a ringtail.
And of course, in the same way people use the word "vixen," or "furry," apparently, they'll just slap a long tail with an alternating color pattern on something and call it a "ringtail"....
