ARGH, billywitches. Someone keeps on leaving the kitchen light on AND the window open so come morning the kitchen is FULL of them. *flail* Horrible bristly maybugs.

(Note: upon bothering to fill in the "current music" box I realise how appropriate this one is, since they're all invariably flailing around on their backs when I find them in the morning.)

That's a name I haven't heard them called. I know them as July bugs or cockchafers.

We trapped one under a glass when I was little. Downright scary, they are.

I think it's a Suffolk thing - I'd heard of cockchafers before moving here but never encountered the little darlings until being bombarded by them while walking the dog one night. We called them "those horrible bee-moth-things" for ages because we didn't know what they were, and I finally worked out what they were at Uni, after finding one guess what, flailing around on its back in the kitchen one spring. :P I think they call them "midgimadors" or "bombadors" as well as may-bugs here, but my colleagues call them "billywitches" and it's stuck. ;)

Cool beatles. Except for the bit about them invading your kitchen.

...why do I feel tempted to draw that now?
