Bad fanfiction
Monday, 16 October 2006 10:59 pmI hate having to try and think of important/big things to threaten/blow up in my fiction, because I can never think of anything to use. :P As there's only so many times you can re-use certain themes, and "random global terrorist with no defined raison d'etre apart from to be plot convenient" gets a bit boring after a while. :P But let's think, what silly crazy themes do I already have? Kidnapping, hiding out in a hospital and stealing an ambulance (I wanted to use the air ambulance but decided that was a bit TOO silly... ;) ), "bad robot gets conscience" and some blatant, BLATANT Mary-Sue-ing... soo... "random global terrorist" may not be that many million miles from what I already have. :P
BAH.
Mind you, this track is inspiring all kinds of rubbish to sprout in my brainpan:
"Ooh! Can you tell me how you feel today?
I found lo-o-ove,
Sweet, sweet mu-sic…
Oh-h… can you tell me how you feel today?
I found lo-ove!..."
KICK ASS, BABY. The Charlatans are full of win today.

And I'm still confused as to how you "Mary-Sue yourself," as you put it, or at least have it count as such, when it's your entire world to begin with. Doesn't it require, by definition, the original storylinet to be someone else's?
Now, if I was to take your Dauntless crew and add a member who could sometimes cook, was highly lazy, and said "foxes" every other paragraph, that would be a case.... (Don't worry, that's only an example. The odds are still against writing my own stories at this point, anyway)

Date: 29 Oct 2006 11:32 pm (UTC)Wikipedia has a lovely description of the phenomenon. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Sue) And incidentally, it IS possible to create a very Mary-Sue esque character in one's own private universe by making that character good and noble and honest and lovely (with an abused past and lack of friends in spite of their noble and upstanding history), and everyone ELSE just plain unrealistically stupid and evil. :P
