keaaluNew project: researching myocarditis.
In the old, ooold storyline where he first was "born", Lii needed a replacement heart because he was attacked and stabbed, but I couldn't fit it in and took it out again. After working on a real cardiac care ward, however, I felt inspired enough to put it back in. (I watched someone getting cardioverted the other day, it was well exciting). According to canon, he already has septicaemia, from where Jiirai lopped off one of his ears, so it's not too big a stretch to spread it to the heart. So the poor fallen captain now has abscesses in his heart, and will need an artificial prosthetic to save his life.
Before I lose its name: bacteria = Pusillus trucido, "tiny butcher". And the more I think about it, the more painful a bacterial abscess of the heart sounds.
Maybe some notes later. Yay! Poor little Azure is all confused by everything, though. Her Lii is broken.

I'm still wondering how this fits into your story.
