Yaaren - Ren's a sort of doggish-deer-lizard-mongrel-thing, ex-gladiator, sort of gruff but gentlemanly

Aileena - Ren's partner/"better half", she's also a mongrel (mostly newt), more psychically gifted, and overweight. Ah well.
