I'm little pissed off with my web host. Two weeks ago, I renewed my subscription, because I'd been getting emails from them saying I needed to, and after that I foolishly had a quick look at the other packages they offer. I pay about £48 for my current service - 30MB space, banners, etc., but I didn't mind because the banners were small and it was fairly reliable. I saw they had a better package on offer, though - one they weren't offering when I signed up for mine 2 years ago - Five HUNDRED MB space, AND subdomains, for UNDER £30. So that's MASSIVELY more space for LESS money - and it'd mean I could stop being so stingey with what art I upload because I could just put it on my site instead of photobucket and VCL and devART and shit. (Not to say I won't also upload to those places, it would just be nice to have links on my site point to images HOSTED on my site.) Instead, they want me to "upgrade" my basic account to a "Gold Plus" account - which is almost identical to the one for under £30, but costs almost twice as much!

I'd have been far less pissed off if they hadn't originally told me on the phone that I could just refund what I paid to renew my original package and then just buy the new package, and now they're telling me I CAN'T - if they'd just said that originally, I'd probably have said "fine I'll upgrade then", but now I'm digging my heels in. So effectively they have me over a barrel until next year when I can come to renew again; either I buy the new package and pay twice as much, or I upgrade my account and pay twice as much. As it stands, I left them a grouchy email to this effect - if I get no joy then I'll just have to wait until next year, because right now I'm not paying EXTRA for a "vanity site" I'm just using as a portfolio for my work.

Didn't realize you have that much art to upload, even. Hmm. Not sure if you just got someone unknowledgable on the phone, or if they just want all your money. Possibly both...
The bit that confuses me is how if you buy the cheaper package when your current one expires, you'd still pay twice as much.

No, I meant if I say "well to hell with the money, I'll just buy the new package NOW and use that instead of the old one" rather than wait a year. I mean, I want to work on my site NOW, not wait until next March. I might just "upgrade", to be honest, as all this um-ing and ah-ing is annoying me, and if I WAIT I'll end up NOT DOING IT. Since I'm in the "OMG WEBSITE YEAH LET'S DO IT BABY" frame of mind at the moment.

And I have more art than you'd realise - as I want to put some of my older Oddworld-related stuff up (as I still like a lot of it), and I can't put that on VCL etc, and Photobucket doesn't have THAT much space (I know, I could sign up for more than one account, but that's against the TOS and I'd rather not risk having the whole lot baleeted.)
