Planet Earth

The BBC's newest big-budget wildlife show ("Planet Earth" - think "Blue Planet" but not just about the ocean) started to air last night. My verdict: very disappointed. But enough about my telly-won't-tune-in woes. The programme itself was awesome - even only half-seen through a snowy blurry picutre where it was hard to separate static froem flocks of white birds/reindeer. The Birds of Paradise stuck in my mind, though - especially the little neat-freak one. :) Seriously, I would never have imagined a wild animal would do this - not content to just clear his performance area of dead leaves and twigs and crap, this little male bird picked up a scrap of bark (or something) and scrubbed a branch clean. :D I know birds like bower birds fuss over their surroundings, but sweeping up? Fantastic. :D

Other news: tried to buy some Prisma markers from the States, but the seller has been very arsey, so I've given up. The first time, I got all the documentation up to "merchandise released", then nothing. I emailed them after a couple of weeks, saying "is everything in order, you've not contacted me and not taken the charge...?" and they replied with "you didn't answer about shipping costs so we cancelled the order." Well, answer WHAT about shipping costs? They'd not emailed me or anything - hadn't even attempted to get in contact about it, so there was nothing TO answer, nothing to say there WAS a question about shipping. I thought "fine, okay, well, we'll try again. The items aren't in the sale any more, but never mind, I don't mind paying an extra $20 while the pound is strong..." and followed their instructions TO THE LETTER. I placed the order, emailed them once I'd recieved the confirmation with the order number, and stated I was happy to pay up to $50 shipping (the first time it was $47). A week passed, I emailed them back, and they replied: "This order was cancelled due to no response on the shipping costs." (As once again, I recieved the email stating "merchandise released" then nothing else)

WTF?? >:( I emailed them in PLENTY of time about shipping costs - I even PRE-EMPTED them and emailed them BEFORE they released the order, so fuck it. I don't need that sort of hassle. If their customer service is that hopelessly shite that they'll cancel an order without even TRYING to contact me about a critical part of it, then they don't deserve my custom. So pfft.

If you're still aiming for prismacolor markers, they're always eBay. Trick is to find a seller with a high feedbak score and one that accepts Euros.

Fun bit is you'd probably get them for less than a store price that way. Not to mention most likely less than $50 for shipping....

Shame we don't get the BBC over here. At least, not on cable....
(though we are getting the last season of Dr. Who. Here there be daleks.... Though I've never actually seen the show, so I have no idea how exactly one says "exterminate". Yet.)

EUROS? *tcha!* We have STERLING, dontchaknow!

And I tried eBay, couldn't find what I was after. I think I prefer the "immediacy" of buying in a shop than the "maybe maybe-not" of auction sites - I don't want to have to bid for half a dozen things and not get any of them. :P Plus, I think the postage was "by weight" and so by necessity it was fairly expensive. :( I did find some almost half-price sets on "Rex Art" though, so I think I'll be going with them.

The BBC do a lot of programmes in conjunction with people like Discovery Channel, and a great many BBC wildlife shows end up on there (even "Big Cat Diaries" which is a lot less "big budget" than things like Blue Planet), so you may be able to get to see it on a channel like that. Keep an eye out for it, though, it's great. :)

Half-price? Blast. Though there are immediate purchases via ebay. They just usually cost more.

I've caught a few. Still not quite the same. Now if only they had more shows/specials with foxes...

And I'm not up to date with European currency. Give me a break....
Either that, or it was a typo/malapropism. One of the two.
