Scary fact: the average fuel economy of the average Ford auto is about 18.8 miles per gallon. The Model T Ford, made circa 1925, had a fuel economy of 25 mpg. Cars made EIGHTY YEARS AGO were MORE fuel efficient and LESS polluting than many cars made today. But of course we're more technologically advanced, aren't we. :P

And people wonder why I prefer to walk. :P I'm not a raging environmentalist by a long shot - I don't wish all humans became extinct and the world "reset" itself (not like it'll do THAT for millions of years), f'rinstance, and my caring for the environment involves turning things off if I'm not using them, recycling, and buying organic food (and I happen to LIKE wind farms), not blockading fuel depots - but this sort of thing concerns me deeply. Especially as those nations pumping out the most car exhaust fumes are the ones building the most roads and most determined NOT to stop it. On a related note, why is it only ever the NIMBYs that make the great sprawling arguments against wind and water power and beat home how "good" coal-powered generators are?

When I get my house, I'm going to have a wind turbine in the back garden. >:)

Why the NIMBYs?

Well . . . that's a GOOD sign. It means that most other folks support wind power. The only ones who are truly dedicated to finding some reason why it is bad are the ones who will be living nearby and don't like the way it looks.

It's human nature: everyone wants electricity, and everyone wants someone else to have to put up with the mining, drilling, waste, air pollution, water pollution, and global warming pollution that are created by its production.

*looks at the above post*

...I just find that odd. I'm not sure why, I just do...

So let's see, rising gas and oil prices, global warming kicking in, having to tap into the national reserve over here, they're still trying to drill in the Alaskan National Wildlife Preserve (Grrrrr....), and people still won't admit there's a problem...

I'm thinking solar energy myself.
